Calpine plans $7-million program on Eskay Creek gold project in B.

A grade and tonnage calculation is being prepared for the 21 zone by Roscoe Postle Associates of Toronto which should be completed by mid-June, Calpine said. In addition, preliminary metallurgical test work is under way at Lakefield Research in Ontario and mineralogic and petrographic studies at several independent laboratories.

Traced for approximately 1,500 ft along strike, the 21 zone is still open along strike to the northeast and also at depth, but the zone is cut off by a fault to the southwest. This winter’s program involved 44,482 ft of drilling in 54 holes. Including previous work, a total of 53,478 ft of drilling in 69 holes has been completed in the 21 zone.

An airborne cesium magnetometer and electromagnetic survey has been completed over the Eskay Creek project and surrounding properties. Preliminary results indicate the 21 zone is associated with a magnetic anomaly extending for approximately 8,000 ft on the Eskay Creek property. “This magnetic anomaly suggests the 21 zone mineralization will continue southwest beyond the fault detected by the drilling program,” the company said.

The first phase of the upcoming program will include ground geophysics, geological mapping, prospecting, backhoe trenching, and geochemical sampling. It will be used to locate the 21 zone on surface beyond its presently known extent and to evaluate other mineralized showings on the property.
