Calgary to host international coal conference in 1997

The International Committee for Coal Research will host a conference from Sept. 9 to 12, 1997, in Calgary, Alta.

The session will examine the latest developments in the production, transportation and utilization of coal, as well as address environmental issues.

Technical sessions will include: clean coal technology; safety in underground mines; disposal of carbon dioxide from power stations; rehabilitation and reclamation; and research and development.

More than 40 speakers, including Eiichi Yugeta of Japan’s Centre for Coal Utilization and K. Jakob of Germany’s Ruhrkohle Bergbau research team, are anticipated to present papers. Site visits to a tar sands project and an open-pit mine are also scheduled.
