Calgary to host conference

Calgary has been selected as the site for next year’s Second International Conference on Environmental Issues and Management of Waste in Energy and Mineral Production.

A “call for papers” was recently issued for the convention which is set for Sept. 2-4, 1992. The first conference in the series was held in the U.S., and the third is being planned for Australia in 1994.

As the 21st century approaches, the world faces increasingly important decisions for protecting and improving the environment which remains vulnerable to ever increasing industrial activity.

The conference will address a small but vital selection of environmental issues that face the mining, mineral processing and energy production industries. The main purpose of the conference is to promote technology transfer by bringing together specialists and multi-disciplinary interest groups.

Topics to be featured include environmental issues in underground mining, current and emerging waste management practices in mining, as well as mine site closure and acid mine drainage issues.

For further information, contact Dr. Raj Singhal, symposium chairman, at P.O. Box 68002, Ranchlands RPO 7750, Ranchview Drive NW, Calgary, Alta T3G 3N8.
