The focus of the book is the Red Lake gold camp of northwestern Ontario, with emphasis on the mines and the individuals who discovered and developed them during the past 65 years. Of the 20 producing mines around the shores of Red Lake, only two are in production.
A contributor to the Odds `n’ Sods column of The Northern Miner, Parrott has lived in the Red Lake area for most of his working life. Born in Winnipeg in 1916, he purchased his first miner’s licence in 1934 in Manitoba. He has published eight other books.
