International consulting firm Behre Dolbear & Company has signed a 5-month contract with Bolivian state-owned mining enterprise COMIBOL for technical and economic evaluation services.
The services constitute part of the process required to prepare the Bolivian government for the privatization of its mining and smelting industry. Behre Dolbear will evaluate 11 undeveloped tin-lead-silver-zinc properties; two inactive deposits, Cerro Rico de Potosi (silver-tin) and Mutun (iron); two active operations, Huanuni (tin) and Colquiri (tin-zinc); and two inactive operations, San Vicente (silver-zinc) and San Jose (silver). It will also evaluate four smelters, three of which are near Oruro and process tin and antimony concentrates, and one near Potosi which is designed to process lead-silver concentrates but was never placed into operation. Behre Dolbear will also assess environmental compliance and environmental responsibilities as they relate to future ownership and/or operating and management responsibility.
