AMF to host Southeast Asian copper, gold porphyry symposium, field trip

The Australian Mineral Foundation will host a symposium on the porphyry-related copper and gold deposits of Southeast Asia, scheduled for Aug. 12-17 in Cairns.

“Porphyry-related Copper and Gold Deposits of the Asia-Pacific Region,” the first portion of the conference, will feature presentations on the geology and economic significance of deposits found in the Phillipines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Papers focusing on the geology, geophysics and geochemistry of specific deposits will also be presented.

Keynote presenters include David Tyrwhitt, Richard Henley and Prof. Spencer Titley of the University of Arizona. Titley will also present a 3-day course entitled “Geological Characteristics of Porphyry Metal and Related Deposits, from Aug. 14 to 16. The course will address tectonic setting, regional controls, and the identification and interpretation of local structures.

In addition, a field trip to the Moonmera area, between Rockhampton and Mount Morgan in Queensland, is scheduled for Aug. 17.
