Aber, Hemisphere have 2 drills on Sunrise property

Drilling results 70 km northeast of Yellowknife, N.W.T., have been encouraging enough for Aber Resources and Hemisphere Development Corp. to change the name of their jointly owned property from Sunset Lake to Sunrise Lake.

The mineralized horizon, which was intersected over a strike length of 525 ft and to a vertical depth of 450 ft, is open along strike. Some 5,000 ft of drilling in 15 holes completed before Christmas indicate a polymetallic deposit with good grade zinc, lead and silver values with recoverable gold and copper credits.

The zone also appears to strengthen with depth, the companies say. At a vertical depth of 350 ft, hole R-9 intersected a 58-ft- wide mineralized zone grading 6.9% zinc-lead and 6.4 oz silver per ton including a 17-ft-thick high grade core grading 13.5% zinc-lead and 18.3 oz silver. All other drilling has been to a depth of only 125 ft except hole R-10, which drilled 100 ft below R-9.

Hole R-10 intersected only a partial width of the mineralized zone due to its displacement by a local fault. Victor Tanaka, vice-president of Aber, says a projection from vertical sections indicates the full width of mineralization resumes beneath the fault.

The other holes drilled north and south of R-9 all intersected the weaker stringer zone of the mineralized horizon which, based on the pattern of holes R-9 and R-10, should improve at depth.

The two companies have committed a second drill rig to the property. One drill will continue work on the discovery zone while the second drills other targets.

While the property is isolated, an all-weather road called the Ingham Trail comes within 40 miles of the property. When that road was built, in the 1950s, engineering studies were done to continue it to within 15 miles of the property.
