50 YEARS AGO March, 1938 TAILINGS PROBLEM AT LARDER LAKE

In mining court in Toronto recently, Mr Justice Godson reserved judgment in the matter of the application of Kerr-Addison Mines for permission to dump slimes into a bay on the northeast arm of Larder Lake in Ontario.

There was also an application by Barber-Larder Mines to draw water from the lake and to dump slimes in a swamp which lies within the boundaries of the mining property.

The applications to dump slimes were opposed by the Provincial Department of Health; there were also representations from the Ontario Department of Mines.

In announcing that a decision would be reserved, Mr Justice Godson said he would avail himself of expert consulting advice on the various points raised. He said it was an important matter for the areas concerned, especially considering the mining developments now taking place. Reprinted from The Northern Miner, March, 1938.
