TSX Venture Exchange – March 31-April 6

Over the March 30-April 6 trading period the S&P TSX Venture Composite Index saw three days of gains half erased by two days in the red, leaving the board up just 17.97 points by the end of the period at 963.17. On a positive note, the Venture board has now managed to stay above 900 points for 13 trading days.

Over the period nine junior companies climbed to new 52-week share price highs while 58 fell to new lows. Daily trading volumes were normal, averaging out to 66 million.

One of those juniors reaching a new high was American Creek Resources, which managed the feat for a second week based on news from a neighbour. Seabridge Gold’s KSM project is adjacent to American Creek’s Treaty Creek, and Seabridge’s development plans include driving a 13-km-long tunnel through Treaty Creek. The tunnel would give American Creek free underground access to its exploration zones. American Creek gained another 8.5¢ last week — making it a 28¢ gain over two weeks — to close at 39.5¢.

A $5-million deal to earn 60% of a gold property in Morocco lifted Maya Gold & Silver 7.5¢ over the week to reach its new 52-week high of 49.5¢. Maya has to pay $1.25 million in cash or shares over four years and spend $3.8 million on exploration to earn its 60% interest in the AIT Bou-Haddou property, an 80-sq.-km property south of Marrakech that hosts historical gold resources.

The week’s most heavily traded stock was Gold Hawk Resources, which moved 11.7 million shares to climb a penny to 4¢. Gold Hawk is building a new tailings facility at its Coricancha mine after excessive upslope irrigation caused ground movement. In February it arranged a US$13-million loan facility, mostly to repay a US$10-million loan that was due. Now Gold Hawk has completed a new resource estimate for Coricancha that pegs measured and indicated resources at 698,318 tonnes grading 6.41 grams gold per tonne, 189 grams silver per tonne, 2.43% lead, 3.33% zinc, and 0.4% copper. Inferred resources add 3.9 million tonnes of similar grade.

Hathor Exploration’s share price continued along its up-and-down path, last week gaining 25¢ to reach $2.25. The company is busy drilling at its Roughrider uranium discovery, which is part of the Midwest North-East project in Saskatchewan, and last week also initiated geophysical work with its joint venture partner, Forum Uranium, at their nearby Henday Lake project.

The biggest absolute gainer for the week was Aldridge Minerals, which added $1 to its share price to reach $2.90. Aldridge’s focus is the Yenipazar project in central Turkey, home to 25 million indicated tonnes grading 1.09 grams gold, 32.8 grams silver, 0.32% copper, 1.12% lead and 1.47% zinc, as well as 3 million inferred tonnes carrying slightly lower grades. The company recently announced metallurgical test results showing flotation of a gravity-enriched concentrate gave good recoveries to produce three separate concentrates.
