AEMQ selects Thomassin as new director general

Jean-Pierre Thomassin will replace Renald Gauthier as director general of the Association de l’exploration minire du Qubec (AEMQ), the Rouyn-Noranda-based body that represents the province’s mineral explorers.

Thomassin has a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering and a master’s in business administration, both from Laval University in Quebec City. He has worked for Falconbridge, Scotiabank, the Caisses populaires Desjardins and, most recently, as an independent consultant in the resource sector.

Gauthier will be leaving his post to pursue other ventures.

The president of the AEMQ remains Woodruff Capital Management’s Gerald Riverin. The association’s executive council consists of: Riverin; Glenn Mullan of Canadian Royalties; Kamil Khobzi of Cancor Mines; Damien Gaboury of the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi; Georges Beaudoin of Laval University; and Jean-Franois Ouellette of Services techniques Geonordic.

Founded in 1975, the AEMQ has about 60 corporate members and more than 600 individual members.
