As part of an ongoing prefeasibility study of its Taysan copper-gold project in the Philippines, Chase Resource (TSE) has released a study on infrastructure implications.
Chase hopes to develop a 50,000-ton-per-day open pit at the property which was last estimated to host 600 million tons grading 0.3% copper and 0.01 oz. gold per ton.
The study, completed by BHP Engineering Philippines, determined that existing municipal roads can accommodate additional traffic to and from the mine. It also concluded that foreshore areas for concentrate storage are available at the deep water port of Batangas Bay, about nine miles away.
The study calls for a separate, 9-mile-long, power-transmission line from the Batangas substation.
Process water can be obtained from the Calumpang River, about 1.2 miles away. Only about 7% of the flow volume will be required.
A tailings dam site has been identified, the height of which will be 30 metres. Locating a waste dump site should not be difficult.
Chase is drilling at Taysan and expects to release revised reserve estimates in early 1994.
The company bought 7.5% of the outstanding shares of Taysan Copper, which owns the property, and can buy an additional 59.9% by paying US$2.9 million cash by May 10, 1994.
