Based on 115 reverse circulation holes drilled in 1992 and 1993, Azco Mining (TSE) estimates its Piedras Verdes deposit near Alamos, Mexico, contains about 87.2 million tonnes grading 0.43% copper.
Using a 0.2% cutoff, the company estimates the minable resource at 72.8 million tonnes grading 0.44% copper. Included in the estimate is a proven resource of 53.9 million tonnes grading 0.46% copper and a probable resource of 18.7 million tons at 0.4% copper. The overall strip ratio is estimated at 1.04-to-1.
The area drilled constitutes about 60% of the known zone of mineralization, with the resource remaining open to the north and east.
Preliminary column leach tests on material from the main zone indicate that acid consumption is low and that the material is highly fractured and porous. Recoveries of up to 96% in 33 days are reported, using a minus-1-inch crush. Azco plans drilling, metallurgical testing and other engineering studies toward completion of a final feasibility study.
