Glamis gets nod for U.S. mine

Mining at a rate of 3,000 tons per day is slated to begin in early July of this year at the Alto gold property held by Glamis Gold (TSE) in Calaveras Cty., Calif. The company said a settlement was reached with various citizen groups that were challenging the actions of the county in approving the mine project.

Based on the settlement, Glamis expects to proceed with the project immediately after the one remaining mining permit is received in mid- April. At that time, the company expects to start construction of the pad and plant facilities.

Glamis is looking to produce about 14,000 oz. of gold from its current reserve at the new mine project.
