Southern Copper looks to grow

A feasibility study on the Oracle Ridge copper mine, near San Manuel, Ariz., calls for current output to be doubled. Southern Copper (VSE) mines and processes 1,000 tons per day from the underground operation. On a monthly basis, Oracle Ridge produces about 1 million lb. copper.

Proven, probable and possible reserves stand at 9.6 million tons grading 2.32% copper — sufficient for more than 12 years of production at 2,000 tons per day. The capital cost of the expansion is estimated at US$11.5 million.
