A workshop titled “Giant Ore Deposits II: Controls on the Intensity of Hydrothermal Mineralization Associated with Orogenic Magmatism” is planned for April 25-27 at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ont.
The course, once again sponsored by QMinEx, is the successor to the workshop on “Giant Ore Deposits” held in May, 1992, which formed the basis for the Society of Economic Geologists’ Special Publication No.2. The workshop will focus on magmatic-hydrothermal, metallic deposits and, specifically, the petrogenetic and metallogenetic controls on the scales of these deposits. Areas being highlighted include the Central Andes, the Great Basin and the Southwest Pacific region.
The course will include both lectures and less formal seminars, and will provide an opportunity for creative discussion between geologists from industry and academia. The ultimate goal of the meeting is to identify guidelines for the search for giant ore deposits.
The cost of the workshop is $642 for QMinEx associates and $802.50 for non-associates (both prices include GST). Accommodation costs are extra. To register, contact Linda Anderson at (613) 545-2597 or fax (613) 545-6592.
