Alaska production up 4% in 1991

Gold, coal, zinc and silver mining production in Alaska increased to a total value of US$554 million in 1991, a 4% increase over the previous year.

A preliminary report on Alaska’s mineral industry revealed that employment totals increased to 3,640 from 3,585 in 1990. The report also showed that total mineral industry value — production value plus investments in exploration and development — was about US$620 million, close to the 1990 total of US$611 million.
