The Vancouver Stock Exchange has recently signed two agreements to strengthen its international securities surveillance capabilities. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with The Securities Association of the U.K., the self-regulating organization of the securities industry in Britain.
As well, the VSE’s application to join the Intermarket Surveillance Group in the U.S. as an affiliate has been accepted in principle and will be signed officially at the group’s quarterly meeting, July 16.
“Both these agreements recognize the amount of trading on the VSE which originates outside of Canada,” said VSE President Don Hudson. “This is also tangible recognition of the standard of the VSE’s surveillance operations, including our state-of-the-art technological advancements.”
The relationship with both organizations will give the VSE access to regulatory information relevant to intermarket violations such as insider trading and market manipulation and to the exchange of confidential compliance information, said Hudson.
