Saddled with an image problem that fluctuates much like the stock market, the Vancouver Stock Exchange is moving decisively to beef up its market surveillance system. The exchange recently commissioned Arthur Andersen & Co., an international consulting firm, to help it review several key areas of concern.
VSE president Donald Hudson says the 4-month review will cover enforcement and compliance activities within the exchange’s trading operations, regulation and membership, and listings departments. However, the principal focus of the study will be defining enhancements to the Vancouver Computerized Trading (VCT) system to improve market surveillance functions. The VCT system was implemented on May 26.
