Silver increase by Coeur d’Alene

A 20% increase in silver production is expected by Coeur d’Alene Mines in 1988, according to Dennis Wheeler, president and chief executive officer. Over-all production for the year is expected to be six million ounces. Gold production should rise this year by about 15% to 62,000 oz, he adds.

By the end of May, the company’s Rochester silver-gold mine had produced nearly two million ounces of silver and more than 15,000 oz gold. “This represents a doubling of our silver production and a tripling of the gold production compared to the end of May in 1987.” Wheeler believes Coeur d’Alene is the lowest cost primary silver producer in the U.S.
