Montreal-based St. Genevieve Resources, in a buying mood last year when it acquired a significant shareholding in Louvem Mines, now says it is seeking to purchase the outstanding balance of Louvem shares not held by itself. St. Genevieve currently has about a 56% interest in the gold-producing Louvem.
To help pay for the purchase, St. Genevieve reports it has reached agreement-in-principle with a syndicate of Swiss banks to raise up to $45 million(C) through an issue of convertible debentures. St. Genevieve shares on the week slipped 29 cents to $1.90 on a volume of 200,600, while Louvem moved up 23 cents to $1.45 on 63,700 shares.
All in all, it was a steady week of growth for the me, with both the market portfolio and the mining and minerals index recording gains throughout, including a 50-pt jump one day by the latter. Volume of trading was generally light throughout the week.
Increasing its interest to 22.9% in Nova-Cogesco Resources through two separate deals was MSV Resources, whose A stock climbed 20 cents to $2.20 with 124,900 shares changing hands. Nova-Cogesco traded 19,700 shares and moved up 5 cents to $1.70.
Mazarin Inc., which closed unchanged at 22 cents on a volume of 94,900, announced encouraging first drill results from the Inmont gold-copper property near Rouyn- Noranda, Que., in which it and Dufresnoy Inc., which dropped 8 cents to 41 cents on 2,000 shares, are each earning a 25% interest. Mazarin is the operator of the exploration program on the Teck Corp.-owned property. Teck B traded 127,100 shares and gained 75 cents to $14.
Oz Exploration and partner Norwood Exploration reported good gold values from the Exxeter gold property near Val d’Or, Que.; the drilling, they say, confirms the extension of Zone 1 at depth. Oz traded 42,400 shares, climbing 3 cents to 18 cents . The two companies are earning a 50% interest in the property from coats-listed Exxeter Resources.
Obtaining an option from Rambo Exploration to acquire a 50% interest in a 35-claim gold prospect located north of La Sarre, Que., was Royex Gold Mining. Royex must spend $1 million on exploration work before the end of this year, and a similar amount before the end of 1990. Rambo closed unchanged at 37 cents with 60,900 shares changing hands, while Royex traded 20,500 shares and gained 35 cents to $4.30.
Recent listings on the me are Globex Mining Enterprises and Stratmin Inc.
