Drilling near Green Bay, Nfld., has enabled Major General Resources (VSE) to expand a recently discovered gold zone.
The structure has an average width of 1.3 metres and a grade of 6 grams per tonne over a 200-metre strike length. It is open along strike and at depth.
Two holes were drilled along strike and at depth to test for extensions of previously reported intersections. The holes were stepped out 100 metres laterally along strike and 60 metres downdip, and the results indicate the presence of a structural deformation zone containing widespread gold mineralization. This zone is contained within an envelope of lower-grade gold mineralization which is up to 25 metres wide. Grades of up to 1.5 grams gold were encountered at the eastern end of the drilling.
Geologically, the new zone is at the same felsic-mafic volcanic contact as the Hammerdown deposit, situated 1.5 km to the east, which has minable reserves of 440,000 tonnes grading 16.91 grams gold (cut).
A further 10 km of this contact zone has yet to be explored.
The new zone is being drilled on 50-metre centres to test for rich areas along strike and downdip.
