Birim increases gold reserves at Ghanaian project

Resampling and assaying of old drill core have enabled Birim Goldfields (CDN) to bolster known reserves on its Aboronye property in Ghana.

A total of 350 samples were taken from five holes drilled by a previous owner. Compilation of the results has led to the identification of three distinct mineralized zones in a dilated shear zone 500 metres long and 60 metres wide. The revised calculation of the total oxide and sulphide resource is 2.5 million tonnes grading 1.64 grams gold per tonne, representing a 35% increase in tonnage and a 25% increase in grade.

Since all three zones are open along strike and at depth, further diamond drilling will be carried out in order to test the continuity and extent of the whole mineralized structure.

Assay results from eight reverse-circulation holes drilled on the adjacent Mampon prospect are expected shortly.

Birim’s short-term objective in Ghana is to define an oxide reserve of at least 6 million tonnes suitable for heap leaching.
