SUMMARY:Economic Evaluation and Investment Decision Methods
DESCRIPTION:2018 4-day program updated with examples and problems related to the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act! \nThis intensive 2½- or 4-Day course has been presented nearly 1\,000 times to more than 23\,000 people. Organized for managers\, engineers\, geologists\, landmen\, scientists\, accountants\, and others concerned with evaluating investments\, this course relates to the economic analysis of income producing and service producing investments using discounted cash flow analysis criteria and procedures. \nThe course covers economic analysis techniques used to optimize the development and operation of mining\, petroleum and non-natural resource production and processing operations. \nThe course textbook\, Economic Evaluation and Investment Decision Methods\, 15th Edition\, 2017 by Franklin J. Stermole\, John M. Stermole\, and Andrew H. Pederson\, demonstrates the evaluation techniques presented using a variety of applications for people with technical and non-technical backgrounds\, with or without previous evaluation experience.

SUMMARY:15th Quadrennial Symposium of the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD)
DESCRIPTION:“Ore Deposits: providing resources for present and future generations”\nIt is worthy to highlight that this is the first time for Argentina to host such an important meeting. South America\, particularly the Andean region that includes some of the richest metallogenic provinces in the world\, such as the richest Cu-Mo province\, one of the most extensive and rich Sn and Ag belts\, one of the richest Sb belts\, the most important concentrations of Li in salars\, and one of the richest borates provinces. Also it hosts some of the largest individual ore deposits such as Cerro Rico de Potosí\, Llallagua\, Chuquicamata and El Teniente mines. South America offers excellent geology hosting world class mineral deposits covering the past 2 billion years of Earth’s metallogenic history\, encompassing almost every conceivable metallogenic process. \nThus the region offers something that will tempt every economic geologist and metallogenist. The diversity of the geology\, mineral resources\, and local population invite the world to investigate and discuss our science and enjoy Argentina’s renowned hospitality. The chance for Argentina to host this important meeting is a unique opportunity to help create an extraordinary environment for the presentation and exchange of knowledge and research results on the genesis of mineral deposits. \nIt will also give an invaluable occasion for local scientists to expand upon their training in various aspects related to metallogeny and research tools. The Argentine bid commits to enhance the participation in the IAGOD Symposium of young geoscientists\, students\, and delegates from less advantaged countries from around the globe. The commitments from the Geological Survey of Argentina and the Geological Association of Argentina\, the support from the Ibero-American Geological and Mining Survey Association\, as well as from the private natural resources sector\, guarantee a successful 15th Quadrennial IAGOD Symposium. \nThere are five field trips planned. Trips are organized in order to visit world class deposits of metals (Ag\, Sn\, Cu) and nonmetals (B\, Li)\, as well as having the opportunity to discover the cultural aspects of the region and their inhabitants\, involving mines from Argentina\, Bolivia\, and Chile.

SUMMARY:7th Conference on the Geology of Diamond Deposits in Brazil
DESCRIPTION:The 7th Brazilian Conference on the Geology of Diamonds to be held in Salvador\, Bahia is attracting speakers and delegates from around the world. The event\, which focuses on the diamond producing industry\, will highlight the diamond potential of Brazil\, its geology\, and new discoveries and developments in the sector. The conference will be held at the Deville Hotel and Conference Centre from November 4th to 7th\, 2018.\nPaul Zimnisky\, a diamond analyst and one of the principal names in the international industry\, will be the keynote speaker and will give delegates his views on the current state of the natural diamond industry\, and where he sees the industry heading in the future. Dr. Barbara Scott-Smith\, a world-renown kimberlite specialist will provide delegates with insight into a new standardized kimberlite terminology that is now being used at most producing diamond mines in the world. There will also be presentations on the Braúna diamond mine of Lipari Mineração Ltda.\, Brazil’s largest diamond producer and the first commercial mine in South America which was developed on a kimberlite deposit.\nKen Johnson\, President of Lipari and the President of the conference organizing committee said that “the purpose of this conference is to highlight the immense diamond potential of Brazil. Prior to the discovery of diamonds in South Africa in 1867\, Brazil was the world’s largest diamond producer for almost 150 years. All of the historical production was derived from alluvial deposits\, despite the fact that there are now over 1\,340 kimberlites discovered. Our Braúna mine is the first kimberlite deposit to be put into commercial production\, with an annual production of approximately 230\,000 carats per year. Following the success of Lipari’s Braúna development\, diamond explorers and producers are now starting to look at Brazil as a prospective area for diamond exploration. There is an industry waiting to be developed here\, it just needs investment and know-how. This will be the focus of this year’s conference”. \nFor more information\, visit the conference website at www.simposiododiamantebahia.com.br/en/.

SUMMARY:7th Conference on the Geology of Diamond Deposits in Brazil
DESCRIPTION:The 7th Conference on the Geology of Diamond Deposits in Brazil will be held in Salvador\, Bahia between the 4th and 7th November\, 2018. The conference will be hosted at the Hotel Deville Conference Centre\, Salvador.\nIt is particularly appropriate that the 7th Conference will be hosted in the State of Bahia\, which is the largest producer of diamonds in Brazil\, and the location of the first commercial diamond mine in South America\, which was developed on a kimberlite deposit\, the primary source rock of diamond. This year’s conference also marks the 25th year since the first conference\, which was held in the State of Mato Grosso in 1993. The objective of this year’s conference is to highlight the diamond potential of Brazil\, and stimulate investment in exploration and development in the sector.\nThe conference will follow four main themes during the technical sessions which will: i) focus on the significant diamond potential of Brazil\, ii) highlight new technologies and expertise that can positively impact producers and explorers in Brazil\, iii) provide expert opinions on the diamond market and insights into how producers can optimize sales\, and iv) offer presentations on various avenues that are available to finance diamond exploration and development projects in Brazil.\nThe conference will be followed by a field trip to the Braúna diamond mine\, Brazil’s largest diamond producer and the first commercial diamond mine developed on a kimberlite deposit in South America.\nA pre-conference short course\, offered by the Institute of Geosciences of the Federal University of Bahia (IGEO) and the Companhia Baiana de Pesquisa Mineral (CBPM) will also be available to interested delegates\, to be held prior to the conference.\nThe Organizing Committee is pleased to invite submissions for oral and poster presentations that align with the four principal themes of the technical sessions. Delegates interested in submitting an oral or poster presentation at the Conference are required to Submit an Abstract of the presentation topic.
