Thompson, the project leader for a team of geologists credited with the discovery of the Cortez Hills project, one of Nevada’s most significant gold deposits, has joined Royal Gold’s business development team. Thompson serves as Manager of Corporate Development on a team headed by William Heissenbuttel, Vice President Corporate Development.

Thompson most recently served as Manager of Reserve and Resource Development at Barrick Gold North America, responsible for reserve addition strategy for Barrick’s North American region. Prior to this, Thompson was employed as Chief Geologist at the Bald Mountain Mine where he led a re-development project that resulted in a significant extension of the mine life. Thompson brings 17 years of technical experience to Royal Gold ranging from exploration and deposit development to geological modeling and resource estimation. He is a Certified Professional Geologist through the American Institute of Professional Geologists and has previously acted as a Qualified Person.

In his corporate development role, Thompson will contribute to the evaluation and consideration of royalty acquisitions, royalty financing and strategic alliance opportunities. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and a Certificate in Finance from Great Basin College.
